In memory of her husband, the ex-Superintendent Giuseppe Marchini, his wife Laura donated in Dicember 1996 to the Friends of the Pitti Palace the “Marchini Library”, which forms the principal original core of the New Palatina Library, located in the first office of the Association and inaugurated in February 2000, after the cataloguing of the volumes, etc.
Over the years volumes have been added, coming from various libraries in the Palace (Gallery of Modern Art, Costume Gallery, Silver Museum, Documentary Museum) from financial institutions, from Florentine and national museums, by specific acquisitions of the Association, as well as from the generosity of numerous donars and friends who, in time, have contributed to the growth of the library even with a single volume.
Presently the complete cataloging with some compter technology supports are available which allow an easy consultation for all the members and whoever could be interested.
- There is free access to the library
- The books are displayed on open shelves
- Borrowing is permitted upon the presentation of identification
- Consultation space is provided
